A Non-Profit Dedicated to Eldercare in Sewanee, TN
To serve older adults in a residential living community with services that: encourage active, healthy living; respect each individual's dignity, rights and independence; value ongoing educational, artistic and community service offerings; and offer opportunities for intergenerational relationships.
Our Mission
Arcadia at Sewanee is a not-profit corporation initiated by the University of the South several years ago with the goal of establishing a retirement community with a continuum of care (CCRC) on, or near, the University Domain. To move this effort along, Arcadia’s Board of Directors asked the community to share its insights. The survey was developed by ProMatura, a consulting firm that is recognized nationally as one of the strongest possible advisors for such projects. The number of responses enabled ProMatura to make its recommendations with a high degree of confidence.
Our Survey
Arcadia and Sewanee’s Folks at Home launched LiveWell on the Mountain, a program provided by Blakeford Senior Life in Nashville. LiveWell offers a complete and professional program of home care services to support “aging in place” with a long-term care component. The goal of this program is to complement the development of Arcadia’s retirement community with a continuum of care (CCRC).
LiveWell
Arcadia is currently working to fund the final planning phase of our campus. The goal is to fund the second planning study, a site choice and plan, the initial land engineering, and first steps toward financing the project.

“It’s a long way away, even from Chattanooga, in the middle of the woods, on top of a bastion of mountains crenellated with blue coves. It is so beautiful that people who have once been there always, one way or another, come back. For such as can detect apple green in an evening sky, it is Arcadia – not the one that never used to be, but the one that many people always live in; only this one can be shared.”
